MASSAGE THERAPY PROGRAM COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 

MT 101 Business Management (20 hours)

  • Setting up a Salon or starting a business, State regulation, obtaining proper licenses, advertising record keeping, insurance and compensation package and payroll deduction.

MT 102 Histology of the Skin & Hair (20 hours)

  • Learners will study the factors involved in hair growth and technical analysis. The intricate structure of the hair follicle and its development

MT 103 Disorder of the Skin (20 hours)

  • Study and understanding the composition of the skin learn to recognize diseases, disorders of the skin, and recognize skin types. 

MT 104   Nervous System (20 hours)

  • Learn about the nervous system and understand what effects treatments have on the body as a whole, especially as related to pain.

MT 105 Endocrine System (20 hours)

  • Learn about the endocrine hormone producing glands and their influences over the many other glands. Disorders and medications and their effects on the hair growth.

MT 106 Bacteriology, Sterilization, and Hygiene (20 hours)

  • Application of sterilization and sanitation methods, Classification of pathogenic bacteria, and know how pathogenic bacteria cause diseases.

MT 107 HIV/AIDS (20 hours)

  • Study the law and moral obligation to take all steps in preventing the spread of the disease. Understand the population at risk and how the treatment is applied to them a the general public as a client.

MT 108 Anatomy and Physiology (100 hours)

  • Study and understanding the bones, muscles, and nerves of the body. Means of manipulations of the body to maintain muscle tone and increase circulation. Using correct products for the body.

MT 109 Pathology (140 hours)

  • In conjunction with the anatomy and Physiology program, students study the abnormal functioning of the body.

MT 110 Ethics (6 hours)

  • Learners will examine professional ethics, integrity, and attitudes. Learners will also be challenged to look at different situations in the industry with standard of care.

MT 112 Full Body Massage (76 hours)

  • Basic massage for healthy, functioning client without any medical problem. Understand body machines form, protocol, process, and procedure for a full body massage from head to toe.

MT 113 Hot Stone Therapy (38 hours)

  • Using heated stone to perform massage therapy for clients with muscle strains. Also, examine the different cultures that use this technique.

MT 114 Back Treatment (38 hours)

  • Focus on clients in a spa setting using exfoliating beads and discuss patients with some back problems and issues from medical conditions to sport injuries.

MT 115 Facial Massage (30 hours)

  • Learners will understand the principles of facial condition and skill problems. Know the simple strokes that a massage therapist uses for facial massage.

MT 116 Spa Techniques (38 hours)

  • Learners will understand some techniques in running a day spa from answering the phone to body-wraps.  They will also have more exposure to paraffin waxing and what the other workers’ responsibilities are as nail technicians, estheticians, and hair stylists.

MT 117 Seated Massage (23 hours)

  • The learners will understand the basic procedure when conducting seated massage in body mechanics for office massage.

MT 118 Sport Massage (57 hours)

  • Gives the learner the basic tools of pre-event and post-event massage. This instruction helps the learner to identify post-event conditions; also understand some different stretching techniques for athletes.

MT 120 Pregnant Massage (29 hours)

  • Learners will understand issues surrounding problems with pregnancy and massage.  They will be able to provide a comfort massage to ease the tension of the expecting mother.

MT 121 Deep Tissue (40 hours)

  • Learners will grasp techniques for athletics with techniques using the elbows, forearms, and knuckles. These methods challenge the learners to be physically fit to perform deep tissue on an athletic client with special needs due to muscle problems.

MT 123 Alexander Techniques (40 hours)

  • Learners will understand the principles of posture and movement.  Developed a century ago by actor F. Matthias Alexander, who used it to cure himself of chronic laryngitis.  He believed if the vertebrae were out of alignment it was due to these poor habits.  The Alexander Technique is a simple method of reeducating the mind and body to improve ease and freedom of movement, balance, and coordination.

MT 124 Myofascial Release (20 hours)

  • Learners will understand some techniques in muscle tension, bones, and organ problems. Developed in the late 1960’s by John Barnes, Myofascial Release works by the manipulation of the fascia that connects and surrounds muscles.

MT 125 Marketing (11 hours)

  • Develop a business practice that is profitable and functional for the therapist and general public. Comprehend proven methods to enhance your knowledge about marketing process from other successful massage therapists.

MT 126 Kinesiology (25 hours)

  • Learner will examine the human movement in this course. Kinesiology will be use in an application approach as an assess tool for musculoskeletal pain and injury in this hands-on lab. Students will study the palpation of bony landmarks with specific massage techniques and investigate new ways to increase range of motion in problem clients.

MT 127 Business in Marketing (4 hours)

  • Learner will examine the different tools in marketing. They will discuss unique ways to network and advertise to the community, and also how to use fundraisers or breakfast and lunch meetings to connect with their peers in the community.

MT 128 Anatomy and Physiology (75 hours)

  • Study and understanding the bones, muscles, and nerves of the body. Learn methods to manipulate the body to maintain muscle tone and increase circulation. Learn correct use of products for the body.
